Talk about your Tattoo Ideas with Julianna!
Get to Know Julianna:
What made you want to be a tattoo artist?
I got my first tattoo when i was 17, and I’ve been hooked ever since. I answered an ad for a shop looking for some help like 5 years ago, and after getting the opportunity to work side by side with successful tattoo artists, it really gave me the push I needed to seek an apprenticeship and get the ball rolling.
What’s your background?
I moved to San Diego from the IE when I was 20 years old, and spent the last 10 years really trying to find success as a working artist. I’ve tried a lot of different mediums, but after landing a job as shop help at Guru Tattoo, I knew right away I wanted to focus on tattooing. Now, with a couple years under my belt, not only do I find myself wanting to master the art of tattooing, I also want to push the industry to be a safer and more inclusive community for artists and clients.
What styles do you specialize in or prefer to work on?
I love big bold tattoos! With heavy blacks and/or lots of color! Putting a bunch of random stuff together and making it work! Let’s get weird.
My goals are really just continuing to perfect my craft, and building rad relationships with my clients. I want to do fun bold tattoos that will last, in an inviting environment.
Are there any requests that you turn down?
At the moment no. Obviously nothing hateful/racist.
How do you work with your clients?
I’ve been creating a lot of custom flash for my clients to choose from, but I am open to tweaking these designs a bit for them, as well as any ideas they might have for a custom piece. I like to have a solid idea of the design prior to appointment, so come tattoo day we slap it on and get tattin!
Who is your ideal client?
Someone who is respectful of my time!
Do you have advice for first timers?
Tattoo artists put a lot of time into drawing, like a lot. Don’t be afraid to ask questions, be open to their critique, we want to give you the best tattoo you deserve!
What makes Diego Tattoo Studio the best tattoo shop in San Diego?
The shop vibe is just so essential to the overall experience of getting a tattoo, and Diego seriously has the best vibe! Everyone there is an amazing artist, and if you want to have a great tattoo experience, you are going to get that at Diego.
